Talk about these ideas:

  • Use Common Sense. If something says, "Click here to win a million dollars," think twice before you click.
  • Use Strong Passwords. Create passwords that use mixed case (capital and small letters), numbers, and special characters (-!@#$%, etc.) Never use the same password for multiple sites or apps. Better yet... consider using a password vault! (Google it)
  • Use the web in public areas.
  • Don't Share Personal Info. Anyone asking for you location, address, school name, birth date, phone number, etc., is suspicious.
  • Be Cautious About Sources. The motivations and expertise of the source is important!
  • Never assume that someone you meet online is who they claim to be.
  • Never arrange a face-to-face meeting with someone you've met online without taking precautions... like meeting in a public place and taking a parent along.
  • Never respond to a message or post that is obscene, suggestive, belligerent, or harassing.
  • Talk to a trusted adult about any information, images, or contact you encounter that makes you feel uncomfortable or seems inappropriate. Trust your gut!

THE Smartest Idea of All:
  • THE ONLY 100% effective protection from harmful online content is the filter in your own heart... your Internal Filter.

Your "Be Still" Experience
(From Workshop Module 7: Be Still)

"Find a quiet place where you can regularly go. Humble yourself before God. Pour out your heart to your Heavenly Father. Turn to Him for answers and for comfort. Pray in the name of Jesus Christ about your concerns, your fears, your weaknesses—yes, the very longings of your heart. And then listen! Write the thoughts that come to your mind. Record your feelings and follow through with actions that you are prompted to take. As you repeat this process day after day, month after month, year after year, you will ‘grow into the principle of revelation.’ Does God really want to speak to you? Yes!”

~Russell M. Nelson

Plan and carry out your own "be still" experience. Here are some ideas on how to do it:

Be Somewhere Still, Absent Technology Find some place to be alone, inside or outside. Invite a sense of quiet and stillness. Notice the world around you. Find ways to invite a peaceful atmosphere. (Read. Think. Listen to peaceful music. Write. Revel in the stillness.)

Pray Consider saying a prayer out loud, pouring out your gratitude, your concerns, and your questions. Then listen and feel.

Allow Yourself to Feel. Record feelings and ideas in a handwritten journal. Meditate.
